TARANAKI ATHLETES IN ACTION. EXCELLENT RACING WITNESSED. The annual meeting of the Eitham Athletic Club, under the auspices of the New Zealand Cycling and Athletic Union, was held at Taumata Park, Eltham, yesterday. Weather conditions were ideal and there was a large and representative attendance of the public from all parts of the district. The programme yas run off well up to time, and the complete arrangements reflected credit on the committee of energetic workers under tho direction of Mr, H. A. Nuttall. The officials were: Marshal, Mr. 11, A. Nuttall; referee, Mr. T. Kirkwood; handicappers (running), Mr. H. V. Ward, (cycling), Mr. H. A. Nuttall; starter, Mr. M. Henricksen; judges, Messrs C. Cooper, T. C. Stanners, J. C. Walsh; timekeeper, Mr. F. Vincent; stewards, Messrs J. J. Patterson, L. des Forges, H. Andrews, A. Beesley, R. Gower, A. Ware, H. H. Marchant, W. Carey, H. Sperring, A. Jackson, C. Ricketts and J. Halpin; secretary, Mr. H. Tayler; assistant secretary, Mr. I. Stauners. The results are as follows: — 150 Yards Maiden. First prize £l, second 10s.—'Boswell 1, Gibbons 2, Sandford 3. Boswell finished fast from behind and won nicely. Half-mile Cycle. First prize £3, second £1 IDs.—First heat: R. Christenson 1, L. Gargan 2, S. McCann 3. Second heat: C. Parker 1, C. Aroa 2. J. Payne 3. Third heat: M. C. Pike 1, Penniall 2, Chapman 3. Final: C. Parker 1, S. McCann 2, L. Gargan 3. Parker and McCann, from scratch, rode a "well judged race and had the finish to themselves, Parker winning by a length. 100 Yards Open. First prize £O, second £1 10s, third 10s.—First heat; Mayhead and Wheeler dead heat 1, O’Byrne 3. Time, 10 2-ssec. Second heat: Watson 1, Boswell 2, Daniels 3. Time, 10 sec. Final: Watson 1, Boswell 2, Wheeler 3. Watson, from scratch, overhauled his field and finished strongly to win by a yard in lOsec. One Mile Cycle (boys under 18). First prize, trophy 30s, second trophy 15s.— R, Christenson 1, E. Stockman 2, J. Payne 3. A good race, won by inches. Time, 2min 45sec.

Two Mile Cycle. First £l2 10s, second £-1, third £2 10s. —S. McCann 1, C. Parker 2, C. Aroa 3. McCann and Parker, the scratch men, caught the field in the sixth lap, and in an exciting finish, McCann stayed on long enough to win by a length, with Aroa close up third. The placed men were never troubled, and disposed of the limit men with the utmost ease.

220 Yards Open. First prize £4, second £1 10s, third, 10s.—First heat: W. Wheller 1, R. Watson 2, J. McKaiti 3. Time, 23 2-ssec. Second heat: A. R. Taylor 1, H. Carey 2, H. A. Boswell 3. Time, 23 4-ssec. Third heat: F. J. Tottey 1, C. W. Gush 2, G. Noonan 3. Time, 23 4-ssec. Final: «F. J. Tottey L H. Carey 2, and C. W. Gush 3. Time, 23 l-ssec. One yard separated the placed men. Three Mile Cycle. First prize £5, second £2, third £l.—E. Aroa 1, S. McCann 2, C. Parker 3. Aroa opened up ft big break at the two miles, and went on to win comfortably by five lengths. Tlie scratch men, McCann and Parker, rode well, but were set an impossible task over the last two laps, and could make no impression on the winner. 440 Yards Open. First prize £S, Second £2, third £1. —-S. Wheller 1, R. Muggeridge 2, W. J. O'Byrne 3. Time, 50 4-ssec. Wheller went to the front from a bunched field 100 yards from home, with Pattinson in close attendance. Tn the run home Wheller stayed on long enough to win by inches, whilst Muggeridge and O’Byrne displaced Pattinson, who failed over the last 20 yards. Five Miles Cycle. First prize £5, second £2, third £l.—S. McCann 1, C. Parker 2, C. Aroa 3. With four miles gone, the two scratch men were up with the field, and from then on the result was in the hands of the two New Plymouth men. McCann took the lead a lap from home and, although strongly challenged in the straight, went on to win by a length. 880 Yards Open. First prize £4, second £1 10s, third 10s.—H. Carey 1, B. Coffey 2, R. Pattinson 3. Coffey led the field until entering the home straight, where Carey overtook him and finished with a foot to spare, with Pattinson two yards away third. Time, 2inin 1 3-ssec. Businessmen’s Race, 100 yds.—M. Henrickson 1, J. C. Walsh 2, C. C. Stanners 3. Committeemen’s Race. — Henrickson and Walsh dead heated for first place. Relay Race, 880yds (gold medal to each member of the winning team). — The Eltham team won by five yards.
