VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING. The Vogeltown School Committee held its monthly meeting on Wednesday. Present: Messrs W. Healy, A. T. Moore, A. C. Evans, F. W. Sheppard (secretary), and Mr. A. Brow-n (headmaster). Jn the absence of Mr. W. H. Broome, Mr. Healy was voted to the chair. Mr. Broome forwarded his resignation as a member of the committee on account of his absence from New Zealand for some months. The headmaster, in the course of his monthly- report, stated that the roll number for the quarter just ended was 171, and the average attendance for the quarter had been 157. The attendance had been adversely affected by epidemics of influenza and whoopingcough. During the month tests sent out by Mr. N. R. McKenzie, senior inspector, had proved of great service in ascertaining the relative ability of the pupils so far as intelligence is concerned, Dr. Gunn had visited the school during the past month. A quarter of an .hour’s supervised games had been instituted, following-the luneh hour, and had proved most satisfactory to both teachers and pupils. It was decided to wrench the lawsoniana trees grown in the school plots preparatory to their being planted out where required in the school grounds. It was reported that the work of cutting up trees in the playground had been completed, and the firewood had been stowed away for use in the school fires.
