COUNTRY SCHOOLS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Could you inform me why the Taranaki Education Board has neglected to build a new school at Ihaia, seeing that three or four months ago the Board received a Government grant of £490 for that purpose, vide report published In the Daily News at that time. Now, sir, the present crib at Ihaia, called a school, is located in a swamp, and children are continuously- sick and absent from school in consequence. Members of the’ Education Board have been inspecting the school and its surroundings, and promising parents to shift it to a proper site—under- offer to the Board for the last five years —and their expenses for so inspecting must now be nearly equal to the cost of a new school. This, sir, is a case of utter neglect of the blackblocks’ schools, while sumptuous conveniences and additions are readily provided for the schools in the chief towns of Taranaki, and particularly for New Plymouth schools. —I am, etc. M? O’BRIEN. Ihaia April 6.
