FOOTBALL CLUB DANCE. (From Own Own Correspondent.) The Football Club dance was held at the Patea Town Hall on Tuesday evening and a large number was present. This was the first dance of the season. Visitors from all over the district were present. The work of the officers and committee helped to make the dance a great success. Messrs. A. Price and G. Yates were the M.C.’s, and these gentlemen earned out their duties admirably. Mr. A. Gilmore, with the members of the Serenaders’ Orchestra, was encored repeatedly. The sum of £l5 was raised at the dance. The monthly meeting of the Patea Borough Council was held on Monday, Mr. P. S. Finlayson presiding over Councillors, Christensen, Ramsbottom, Honeyfield, Rook and Thomson. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote enclosing a copy of a new regulation in connection with town-planning.—Received. Other reports received wer e held over till next meeting. A request for a new lease from Mr. Egan was refused. Mr. Egan desired to lease without the building clause. It was decided that the offices of the council be closed from Thursday to Tuesday, during Easter. Councillor Honeyfield asked the number of licenses taken out for taxis in Patea, up to date. He said that all cars picking up and setting down passengers within the borough should be taxed. His Worship said that they could not do anything until the appeal against the magistrate’s decision had been decided. Councillor Thomson said that the footpaths in Kent Street needed repairs badly. The Mayor said the matter had not been overlooked. The Mayor, speaking at a meeting of the Cemetery Board, expressed pleasure at the splendid way in which the caretaker had done his work, and eaid that the Inspector of Cemeteries had expressed his approval cf the order in which the grounds were kept. The board had been fortunate in getting such able men to carry out the work. Mr. Clarkson’s offer of 18s per cord of wood was accepted. A very successful euchre party and dance was held in the Alton Hall on Friday evening, in aid of the Church funds. The committee are to be congratulated on the splendid entertainment provided. Miss Hurley supplied the music, which was much appreciated. The prizes given by Mrs. A. Gibbs were won by Miss G. Green and Mr. W. D. Anderson.
