ROYAL GOVERNORS

APPOINTMENT UNLIKELY QUESTION AROUSES INTEREST. ■SUGGESTION NOT PRACTICABLE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.-Copyright. Received Jan. 4, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan. 3. “The question of Royal GovernorsGeneral has aroused great interest, but the Duke of York’s visit may not be regarded as in any way suggesting that such appointments might be made in the future,” says a political correspondent. “On the contrary, it is pointed out that it is extremely unlikely that Royalties will be appointed because there are insufficient available.” The King’s heir obviously could not hold a post outside England. It is hardly possible even that the Duke and Duchess of York will be lengthily absent. Thus there are only two available, assuming that both would be able to accept such an appointment. Only two Dominions could be covered. Difficulties might arise elsewhere if a Royal Governor were wanted, and none wae available. It is considered, in well informed circles, that it is safe to say that there are no prospects of Royal Governors-General for many a day.
