SCOTCH NIGHT AT TE KIRI
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. Favoured with a fine night and a large attendance from all of the surrounding districts, the Te Kiri Scottish Association held its third annual Scotch night on New Year’s Eve. All seemed to be in holiday mood and the night passed away merrily. The skirl of the pipes roused the Celtic blood of the Mac’s present. The New Year was ushered in in the time-honoured fashion to the strains of Auld Lang Syne. Proceedings opened with a pipe march by Piper D. McLeod, after which dancing commenced to music supplied by Feek’s orchestra, and was kept up to the small hours of the morning. During the evening songs were contributed by Miss Carbis (“Annia Laurie”), and as an eneore “Robin Adair;” Piper L. Burrows (“Lass o’ Kiliieerankie,” encored); Mr. Mitchell’s Maori Quartette (encored); Piper Jack Hamilton (encored); recitation, Mr. J. Connol (“Pardon the Son of Reprieve”). A selection on the pipes by Pipers McLeod, Burrows and Hamilton was received heartily. Mr. J. Connol and friend, both of whom are members of the Blind Institute, played an extra waltz as a duet, which was much appreciated. Tho committee desires to thank all those who assisted with the programme, and also the ladies, who so willingly assisted in the supper room. The M.C.’s duties were in the capable hands of Messrs H. Davidson and R. Thomas. It is understood from the secretary that the receipts are a record, and this must be encouraging to the committee, who have every reason to be satisfied with the result obtained.
