The annual break-up and prize-giving ceremony of the Tataraimaka School was held in the hall last night in the presence of a large number of parents, and friends.
During the evening there were games and scr&m-bles for- the children,:, and a short concert organised by Mies Patterson was presented by the pupils of the lower classes. Mr. Adams, chairman of the committee, before presenting the prizes, paid a tribute to the splendid work of the headmistress (Mrs. Smith), and her assistant (Miss Patterson). He drew attention to the successes of the school at the New Plymouth and Hawera Shows, and also to the fact that all the pupils of standard VI had gained their proficiency certificates. The prizes were then presented, each child receiving one.
The following pupils gained proficiency certificates.—Teresa , Fabish, Gethyn Penwarden, Susie Gatenby, Bobby Young and Hector Thomson.
The following have attended every day djiring the whole year. — Moana Fabish, Molly Richardson, Laurie Richard) son, Bobby Young, Ivy Young and Mabel Aish.
During the- evening Miss 6. Patterson, who is leaving after having been assistant for the last six years, was the recipient of i e presentations, a travelling rug from the pupils, a beautiful bouquet presented fry-little Mary Bini from Airs. Blwt and family, and a cheque from the parents and residents. In making this latter presentation, Mr. W. Honeyfield feelingly referred to Mies Patterson’s splendid w-ork, and assured her that though’ they were very sorry to lose her, she would always carry with her their best wishes.
