BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL STAFF
RECOGNITION OF SERVICE. In the way they have at public schools, several members of the teaching staff of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School were, during the course of this week, made the recipients of presentations in appreciation of the service they have given to the school. Mr. J. Earl, who leaves this morning for the South Island prior to taking up a new position on the staff of Christ’s College, Christchurch, was presented by his colleagues on the teaching staff with a leather attache case as a tangible recognition of the esteem in which they held him, and many regrets were expressed at his departure, the masters wishing him every success in his new sphere of activities. As a mark of appreciation of his successful coaching during the past five years, the senior football fifteen of the school yesterday presented Mr. A. J. Papps with a handsome enlarged portrait of the team, which this season has been most successful. In making the presentation the captain of the fifteen (F. Read) extended to Mr. Papps the sincere thanks of the boys for his unselfish devotion of time to their training, and for the success of his efforts. In anticipation of his intended marriage this month, the teaching staff presented Mr. J. Leggatt with a tea service, the boarders gave him an attache case, and the hospital matron (Mrs. Law) and the house staff presented him with a set of decanters and glasses. The Rev. E. H. Strong, whose service as school chaplain has made him a friend of one and every boy, was presented by the boys with a silver ornament.
