The death of Jean Phillip Worth, the noted costumier, ie reported from Paris. —■Press Assn. A Tokio message says that there are more encouraging reports of the Emperor’s condition from the Palace, but the tension has not been relaxed. A Berlin message states that it is reported that the ex-Kaiser’s daughter-in-law Princess Sophie Charlotte is engaged to marry a Potsdam military officer, Von Hedemann, who is much younger. She is the divorced wife of Prince Eitel Friedrich.—Press Assn. Deputations to the Hon. G. J. Anderson (Minister of Marine) in the Westport Town Hall on Tuesday, ended dramatically with the collapse and death at 8.39 p.m. of the Mayor of Westport, Mr. C. N- Greenland, who shortly before, welcoming the Minister, made a fine speech in the presentation of the case on behalf of the district in regard to harbour affairs. Mr. Greenland, who was 7*5 years of age, held the post of secretary to the Harbour Board till 1919, when he retired. Mr. A. Nisbet Smith, who leaves New Plymouth shortly for Wanganui to take up a position there, was the guest of honour yesterday at a farewell tea organised by the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce. In voicing the general regret of the business men at the impending loss of Mr. Nisbet Smith, who has been an enthusiastic and active member of the chamber, the president (Mr. S. Burgess) paid a tribute to their quest’s whole-hearted service as a public man, Messrs. P. E. Stainton and A. Goldwater endorsed Die president’s remarks, the former stressing Mr. Nisbet Smith’s remarkable success as president of the Rotary Club, and the latter emphasising the loss his departure would occasion in the ranks of the New Plymouth Bowling Club, where his cheerful nature had won him. many friends. In acknowledging the compliments and expressing his regret at leaving New Plymouth. Mr. Nisbet Smith said that he thought the good work carried out by the chamber was of far greater significance than many business men realised; if this realisation were more general, the membership would largely increase. In conclusion he voiced hie optimism regarding the future of New Plymouth as a port, and predicted that the passing of even a few years would bring a development of New Plymouth that would surprise everybody.
