MARRIED “DON JUAN.”

LETTERS TO OTHER GIRLS. Separated from his wife through his own conduct with other girls, a young Bristol conductor urged his desire to make a home for Her. His plea for her return did not succeed, and he was ordered by the magistrate to pay £1 a week to her under a separation order and two guineas costs. Mr F. E. Metcalfe, for the wife, said they were married in 1919, but in July 1921 there was trouble owing to his conduct with another young woman. The consequence was that his wife left him and went back to her parents. Then he joined the Army, but obtained no allowance for her, and she was forced to demand it. He thereupon made her an allotment pay, but subsequently wrote to her saying: “In view of all that has happened I think it best we should part from one another. At any rate, I absolutely refuse to live with you again.—Your husband 11. .’’ Later he asked his wife . To Return To Him, but it .was discovered that at the time ho was keeping company with a second young woman, to whom he wrote love letters. In one he said he was happy that she said she loved him, and spoke about a month's holiday with her. Another letter was of nine pages, but the first four were missing. The remainder were of a loving character, in which, said Mr Metcalfe, “he tried Io induce this girl jo the seashore at night.’’ Tlie wife said Ufa trouble arose when he got entangled with a girl. Though she might have forgiven him for that she found him carrying on with others during the time he offered to take her back. There was one child. Her relatives had kept her. Defendant said he was anxious to live witii his wife. His escapades were long ago and ho had had nothing to do with girls since. He admitted joining the Army under an assumed name.
