(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Kaponga Methodist Sunday school held their prize-giving ceremony in the Parish Hall on Wwnesday evening, when there was a large gathering of children and friends. The children were first entertained at tea by the teachers of the Sunday school, who were responsible for the arrangements in this connection, and also for the other part of the evening’s entertainment. While the adults were having their tea the children amused themselves in various games outside, until it got too dark for them to see, after which they returned to the hall and played games. A short concert programme, which had been made up by the children’s teacher’s, followed. The followed is the programme: Songs, Jimmy Davies, Desmond Evans; recitation, Dulcie Shepherd; song-duet, Bonnie and Pat Tonkin; dialogue, entitled “The Sewing Society,” and “City Ignorance,” Misses Muriel Evans, Gladys Knight, Phyllis Knight, Betty Hollard, Linda Davies, Bonnie Tonkin, Joe Hay jun.; song, Phyllis Knight. At the conclusion of the concert programme tho Rev. A. Blakemore proceeded with the presentation of the prizes, when each child received a suitable prize in the form of a book as a reward for his or her services in attending Sunday school. The minister addressed the children on the need of their going to school regularly, which helped to encourage the teachers, who spent a great deal of time in- teaching them. Tho superintendent of the Sunday School also thanked those teachers who had loyally kept the school going during his illness in the earlier part of the year, and also thanked the parents for sending their children to school regularly. At the conclusion of the prize-giving refreshments were handed round to all present. The final euchre party and dance of this year was held in the Parish Hall last evening, when without any playoffs being necessary for the ladies’ or men’s prizes, the ladies' prize was annexed by Miss B. Williams, and the men’s prize went to Mr. J. Tyack. A points prize for a series of seven nights was also concluded last evening, when the successful winner for the ladies’ honours was Mrs. E. Boyle, with 36 points, closely followed by three other ladies, namely. Mesdames T. T. Jones, C. 11. Brewer and Miss B. Williams, all with one point behind the winner. In th: men’s case there were only two who wore any way close ’up, and they were Mr. J. Tyack, with 49 points, and Mr. E. W. Blackwell, with 42 points.
