YOUTH FOUND DEAD

VERDICT OF SUICIDE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A verdict of suicide by gas poisoning was returned by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the inquest concerning the death of Karl Edwin Smith, aged 16. When his mother returned home yesterday afternoon she found him ot the kitchen floor having turned on the gas and inhaled it. Noah Riley Smith said his brother was in good health but had an impediment in his speech, about which he was very sensitive. He was impulsive and had frequently changed his mind as to what occupation be would follow. He was on the best of terms with his family, and witness could think of no reason for his suicide. William Norman Smith, another brother, said that when he left home yesterday afternoon two hours before deceased was found dead, deceased was in good health and spirits and was fixing up a garden spray. There had been no suggestion of a quarrel, and he thought deceased had met his death by accident.
