ATHLETICS

NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB RUN. The New Plymouth Amateur Athletic Club held an ‘ afternoon at Ngamotu Beach on Saturday. About fifteen members of the club were present; and a very enjoyable time was spent in throwing the discus and javelin, sprinting, jumping and a long distance run of about 2J miles. The winner’s time for the long run was half a minute faster than the first run which was over the same course. Before leaving for home, afternoon tea was served at the Pall" dium. The result of the big race was: Head 1, Rawson 2, Hunter 3. In connection with the sports meeting on Boxing Night permission has been granted for holding cycle races, but no training is to be done on the ground. The two races will be a two-mile open and two laps for old timers. On Tuesday night the usual weekly meeting for the points prizes will be held. The events to be decided wilt be a 220yds and a mile race for seniors, a 220yd's for maiden runners and a mile for jun’o.-s.
