THE MAORIS DEFEATED
SUCCESS OF CORNWALL. A BRILLIANT MATCH. z By 7- lograph—Press Assn—Copyright. London, Nov. 24. Corwall defeated the Maori team by six points to three. The match was played at Falmouth in fine dry weather. A draw would have been a more fitting result. It was a fast open game, the Maoris giving a magnificent display. The forwards were excellent in the loose, but the sturdy Cornish pack played havoc with the tourists’ liner work, resulting in little progress upfield. The Maoris passing was too mechanical and often let in their opponents. The visitors in the first half fairly had the better of their opponenis and were frequently applauded. Barclay, Falwasser and Robinson were all pulled down within inches of the line. A try was scored by Barclay who, picking up from the melee, dashed over. Potaka failed to convert. .Cornwall rallied splendidly in the second half the forwards breaking through several times. From Jago’s cross kicks Hany evened the score with a try which Jago failed to convert. Five minutes later Jago broke away, punted lightly over Phillips’ head, followed up and scored, but the try was not converted. The Maoris redoubled their efforts in which Barclay, Potaka, Falwasser and Robinson were prominent. Their excellent efforts were all grassed on the eve of scoring. Cornwall also made a desperate effort to increase its lead, but the Maoris by superb tackling prevented them doing so.
The Maoris' on leaving the field received an ovation. There was a record attendance of spectators.
The Maori team consisted of Phillips, Barclay, Potaka, Falwasser, King, Pelham, Shortland, Bell, Olsen, Dennis, Wilson, Rika, Tatana, Nanihera and Robin-
