MOTOR-CYCLE ACCIDENT

CAPSIZE ON SOUTH ROAD. TWO PERSONS BADLY INJURED. As a result of the overturning of a motor-cycle and sidecar on the South Rpad, near Spotswood, on Sunday afternoon, two persons, Arthur Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Hoffmann, of Hine Street, were admitted to hospital, the former with two broken ribs and bruises to the side of the head, and the latter with one leg broken in two places, her back badly strained, and suffering from shock. Another passenger, Mrs. Faulkner, of Pioneer Road, was taken to Mrs. Hoffmann’s house suffering from bruises about the body. It appears that as they were about to negotiate a bend, Mrs. Faulkner, who was on the back of the cycle, caught hold of Mr. Fitzpatrick’s arm, with the result that the .machine ran up ft four foot bank where it overturned. The ambulance was called and Mr. Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Hoffmann were removed to hospital, where they are reported to be progressing favourably, although it will bo necessary for Mrs. Hoffmann to undergo an operation to-day. Mr. Fitzpatrick's injuries are not regarded as serious. Had the accident occurred a chain or two further down the road, the riders would probably have been killed, as there was a 60ft drop into a creek.
