PROPOSED REDUCTION OF ARMY. By Telegraph—-Press Assn.—Copyright. Paris, Sept. 10. The War Minister (M. Painleve) has submitted to Cabinet drastic military econ. omy schemes, entailing a reduction of the number of officers to 28,000, compared with 35,000 before the war, and progressive arrangements which will eventually reduce compulsory service from 18 months to a year. The Naval Minister is proposing to close the naval arsenal as well as the naval port of Lorient. The ecenomies of the Ministers of Public Works entail the dismissal of 700 employees.
