TROTTING NOTES. . (By "Equitable.”) The Ashburton Trotting Club will hold their one day winter meeting today. This meeting will wind up the trotting in the South Island for the 1926 season. Most of the horses will be treated to a light let up before the new season opens in August. # » # # The Hawke’s Bay Trotting Club had a very successful winter meeting, and the totalisator investments ■ showed an increase over their last meeting. Trotting is going ahead in this district, and quite a lot of new owners are coming into the game. • * * * The Hawera-owned mare, Mary Audubon, had a lucky win in the Clive Handicap. Halmore, who finished second, was badly interfered with by Little Huia breaking in front of him. When Halmore got clear he put in a great burst of speed and finished within a length of the winner, who was favourite. « « • • Trampfast, the Ashbprton-owned trotter, won both the trotters’ races. This gelding is above the average. A lot of would be buyers were inquiring after the price, but owner Bill Lowe said “not for sale.” ■* * * « A couple of seasons ago the same owner won both trotting races with Colmar and then sold him to Mr. Sam Lacome, the price being stated at the time to be £750. So far Mr. Lacome has failed to win a race with-him. * * * * There was a lot of Hawera money for Moko Chief and Van Cap for the Ashburton meeting. The. first mentioned tangled a lot and finished in the ruck. Van Cap went a good, race for a mile and a half and finished well back in the bunch. # * • • Marshall Neil, the winner of the big race, was bred by Leo Berkett, who trained and drove him. As he is only a four-year-old, a lot more races are likely to come his way. Marshall Neil is by Neil Dennis, who is a half-brother to Arthur Dillon. * * * * Miss Native, the Longlmrn-owned trotter, went her best race t'o date by finishing second to Trampfast. She was in the lead till entering the straight, where she went to a break and just beat Some Jazz for second money. #** ‘ * Hawera owners have been very liberal with their nominations for the Auckland meeting, which takes place on June 23 and 29. Trainer Green has five entered, Moko Chief, Marble Hall, Van Cap, Speculator and Kokiritca. * * # * R. Vautier attended the Hawke’s Bay meeting to see his horses race. Blue Glen paid a couple of good dividends for second place, and Some Jazz finished third. He was in Christchurch to see his mare, Daphne Wildwood, win. RACING FIXTURES. June 18, 19.—Napier Park R.C. Winter. •Tune 23. —Hawke’s Bay Hunt meeting. June 25, 26. —Hawke’s Bay J.C. Winter. July 8, 10.—•'Wellington R.C. Winter.
