MAGISTRATE’S COURT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, before Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M., the following police cases were dealt with:-r-Maynard Kahui (Rahotu), for failing to deliver to the Defence Department property valued at £9 10s, wa.s convicted and ordered to pay court costs. Daniel Dickenden, for permitting gambling on his licensed premises, the Rahotu Hotel, on June 2, was convicted and fined £5, court costs 19s. James Leslie Coad, for omitting to amount paid on behalf of the Post.stamp a signed receipt for £2, the master-General, was fined £1 and costs 73. Leslie Mahuru was prosecuted by the police for stealing a brooch and a Ipcket, valued at £2 at Puniho, the property of Pokanga Komene. He was convicted and fined £l, court costs £1 2s, James Sharland, for complicity in the same offence, was similarly lined. Both the accused were admitted to twelve months’ probation. A local resident was charged with using a shop a common betting house. He was remanded to appear at New Plymouth on July 28. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £75 and himself £75. The remand was applied for by Senior Sergeant McCrorie. On the application of Mr. Bennett, counsel for the defendant, the name of accused was suppressed. GENERAL. A special collection to extinguish the debt on the new Catholic Church, £340, was placed in the plate on Sunday. Thursday evening the district D.G.M., Bro. A. G. Robertson and suite, of Okaiawa Lodge, installed the officers of the Star of Opunake Lodge, 1.0.0. F., New Zealand,
