CRUISERS FOR BRITAIN
FACING THE COST. REDUCTION IN PAY. By Telegrn.ph.—Press Assn. —Copyright* Received July 20, 8 p.m. London, July 19. The Daily Express says that ministers are sqeking a compromise on the cruiser question. Probably a solution will be reached without resignations. A committee of Cabinet suggests a saving, which eventually at the least will be £4,000,000 a year, by. reducing the pay of future recruits in the army to the extent of 20 per cent., in the Navy to 15 per cent., and in the Air Force to 10 per cent. The lobbyist of the Daily Express affirms that Cabinet is likely to favour slight modifications in the Admiralty programme. It also hopes to counterbalance some of the new expenditure by economies. It will review the position of all the dockyards and the rates of pay of the naval and Air Force.
