BRIDGING THE MOKAU.
CONTRACTS LET FOR STEEL. EARLY DELIVERY STIPULATED, EXPEDITING THE ERECTION, (From Our Own Rporter.) Stratford, July 3, Contracts totalling over £6OOO have been let to a British firm, through their New Zealand agents, for the construction of the steelwork required for the erection of the bridge across the Mokau River, it being stipulated that four spans are to be delivered, within four months and the rest by March 31 of next year. This information was given to the Stratford representative of the Daily News to-day by Mr. T. M. Bail, district engineer of the Public Works Department, under whose direotion the big bridge will be built. Mr. Ball expressed satisfaction at the early delivery of four spans of steelwork, and I pes to have the pile work pushed on so as to be ready to receive the steel spans on delivery. The letting of these contracts marks an important step towards the replacement of the present ferry across the Mokau by a modern bridge, the erection of which will forge the last link in providing uninterrupted connection by good roads between Taranaki and Auckland.
