GIRL CITIZENS.
CHIEF COUNSELLOR ENTERTAINED. Miss Leila Bridgman, national secretary of the girl citizens’ movement in Australia and New Zealand, was the guest of honour at a very successful banquet tendered to her last night by the girl citizens of New Plymouth. About fifty girls and mothers were present, and the evening was spent in the honouring of several toasts interspersed with musical items.
Miss Clara Alexander, chief girl citizen, presided. The aims of the girl citizens’ movement were briefly outlined Iby Miss Bridgman in a charming speech. Toasts were honoured as follows: “The Queen,” Miss E. Chapman; “Our Mothers,” Miss M. Insull—Mrs. White; “Our Daughters,” Mrs. Hall—Miss E. Harlow; “Chief Counsellor,” Miss C. Alexander—Miss Bridgman; “Counsellors,” Miss R. Edgecombe—Miss E. White; “Girl Citizens,” Miss E. LepperMiss C. Alexander; “Y’.W.C.A.,” Miss Z. Saxton—Miss .Stevenson; “Girls of Other Lands,” Miss F. Duckworth. Songs were contributed by Mesdames Davie and Ainbury and Miss M. Thomas, and recitations by Misses M-» Crozier and Z. Saxton.
