PEACE OF EUROPE.

THE SECURITY PACT. ATTITUDE OF GERMANY. DESIRE FOR CONFERENCE. Jiy Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, June 21. The Berlin correspondent of the Times says that the German press goes to extremes in commenting on the French Note, which will be answered by a request for further information in regard to matters which are described as conflicting with the League Covenant. While the Fascist and extreme Nationalist organs blatantly call for the unhesitating abandonment of the pact proposals the centre and Left press just as vigorously urge the Government to proceed with the negotiations. Their attitude may be summed up in a single sentence: “The sooner there is a conference the better.” As far as the Nationalist. Party is concerned it is believed it will oppose any negotiations until Cologne is evacuated and disarmament is finally settled. Paris, June 21.

The Berlin correspondent of the Petit Parisien says that the British Charge d’Affaires called on Herr Stresemann and emphasised the importance the British Government attaches to the proposals in the French Note in regard to security. He declared the note formed the best possible starting point in negotiations between Germany and the Allies.
