MUNICIPAL CONTROL.
CHANGES IN LAW SOUGHT. By Telegraph —Preae Aaaoclatloa. t Wellington, Last Night. The principal remits passed 'by the recent Municipal Association’s conference were laid before the Minister fos Internal Affairs (Hon. R. F. Bollard) bjr a deputation consisting of the Mayor* of Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin* Masterton, Newmarket, Palmerstoi} North, Nelson and Invercargill. The deputation laid stress on remits asking the Government to: fa) Increae* its contributions to fire boards; (b>l allow the expenses of local body loan* to be paid out of loan; (c) to absent voters to vote at local elect ion ■ as they do at Parliamentary elections g e (d) to empower the Main Board to subsidise large boroughs and cities; (e) allow boroughs representation on the Main Highway® Board; (f)} increase to £2O the amount which a? local body member may sell to a local body; (g) legislate to provide that all a focal body’s department banking accounts ;be treated as one account. It was also urged that soldier set* tiers’ land which had reverted to thd Crown ought not to be exempt frons‘ rates. The Minister: “Do you expert thd Government to pass that?” (Laughter.* The Minister promised careful conalden ation of all the remits.
