DETAILS OF SOUNDINGS. SECOND OFFICER’S EVIDENCED By Telegraph —Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night The nautical inquiry into the atrardmg of the Cyrena was continued to-day, when the principal topic was the soundings taken when the steamer stranded, and the second officer (Mr. Adams) gave details of these. The first sounding, which was abreast of the forward winch, was eighteen leet. This was maintained to a point well abaft the foremast, where the three fathom mark on the line came out of the water. This would b» some sixty-four feet from the torecastl* head. Beneath the bridge he found seventeen leet. Between No. 3 hold and the winch he got less than seventeen feet and more than sixteen feet ail* Inches. The next depth was sixteen feet * between the winch and the main mast abreast the mainmast, and the sum. depth was found abreast the winch. At tho mainmast sixteen feet was recorded. At the break of the poop he got eights een feet. He also obtained soundings on the whole at lees than seventeen teet for a distance of eighty feet, the lowest being less than sixteen feet. There was less than 56 teet between his first and final calls ot seventeen feet. The witness also took soundings at 2 p.m. on bunday over the forecastle head. He got eighteen feet and abreast of tlie foremast on the port side twelve teet. He took other soundings, but those mentioned were the greatest and least respectively. The inquiry was adjourned till tomorrow morning.
