FRENCH AND THE RIFFS.
WARFARE IN MOROCCO. By Telegrapii.— Preu Awn —Copyright. London, May 11. The Paris correspondent of the* Times says that, following a Cabinet discussion on the Moroccan situation, the (M. Painleve) made a statement that the Riffs would soon discover the mistake of penetrating into the French lines. It was of the greatest importance that this Riff movement, which was no longer a mere infiltration with the object of pillage, but a real invasion aimed at forcing France to evacuate the territory as far as Fez, should be suppressed with the utmost energy. -M. Painleve emphasised that it was also important that France’s intentions should be clearly understood abroad. Then* was no question of a war of conquest; France was purely and simply dr fending her own interests. Not only was she remaining within the limits of the Moroccan mandate, but was acting in complete accord with the AngloSpanish agreement.
