BOROUGH ELECTIONS.
NAMES NOT ON ROLLS, NEW PLYMOUTH COMPLAINTS. COMMITTEE TO INQUIRE, To devise ways and means of conducting the borough elections on a more satisfactory manner a committee comprising the Ma} r or (Mr. F. E. Wilson) and Councillors V. Griffiths and G. A. Colson was set up by the New Plymouth Borough Council last night. The Mayor said that after the election last week there been numerous complaints from people who said that while they had voted at previous elections their names had been removed from the roll used at the last poll, while others had said that while their names were on the roll they had not been allowed to vote. This should not be. The unfortunate part about it was that on some future occasion the elected councillors might have to fight an election petition due to faults in the roll. The committee would inquire into the reasons why qualified electors had not been allowed to vote and might also be able to make some recommendations regarding the purging of the roil. Several of the councillors mentioned complaints they had received, and the setting up of the committee was agreed to unanimously.
