KAWAROA PARK.

SOCIETY’S ANNUAL MEETING. SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION. ENTRANCE TO BE TAR-SEALED. The annual meeting of the Kawaroa Park Foreshore Beautifying Society was held at New Plymouth last night-. Mr. V. 11. Beal presided over a large attendance. In moving the adoption of the report (already published) and the balancesheet, the president pointed out that although wages had been higher last year than previously, namely £965, which was about £6O more than in the previous year, yet the total expenses, amounting to £704 18s sd, had decreased from the previous year’s expenses of £784 Ils 9d. A sum of £74 7s lid had been written off for depreciation, in comparison with £64 in the previous year. The excess of income over expenditure had been £327 13s, compared with £285 in the previous year, but it had to be remembered that the’ year’s expenses of the society had been £504, excluding the Easter function, while the income had been only £4OO. This showed that there would be a deficiency of practically £lOO were it not for the effort made at Easter. The society’s financial position could best be realised, he continued, by remembering that in one bank it had one deposit of £2OO bearing interest, and in another a sum of £467 Ils 4d, a total amount of £667 Ils 4d to its credit. A fair amount of this had been written off in depreciation, but it still left the society in a sound position. There were the expenses of the tennis courts, amounting to £3OO, still to meet. The £2OO deposit was put by for the purpose of providing a better entrance. The society had been fortunate in the past regarding its Easter function, but the time was sure to come when it would experience wet weather at this function, and then the receipts would materially fall off. To guard against this it was necessary to hold a substantial balance in hand.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted without discussion. Officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows: —’Patron, Mr. A. A. Alexander; president, Mr. V. H. Beal; vice-presidents, Drs. G. 11. Thompson and 11. B. Lea th am, and Messrs C. H. Burgess, E. P. Webster, F. Reston, H. E. HiJl, H. Ward, A. E. Sykes, W. H. Moyes, H. Dempsey, T. C. list, D. P. Evans, E. H. Tribe, —. Sole; executive, the president, secretary, treasurer and Messrs T. Petty, Y. Hoskin, J. Nodder and C. Lister.

Votes of thanks were accorded to the presidents and the Press, and honoraria of £5 were voted to the secretary and the treasurer. The secretary (Mr. H. G. Andrews) intimated that as he had been in office only a short time, he Hid not wish to accejrt an honorarium, but since such had been voted him he would donate it towards providing a better drinking fountain or some other improvement to the society’s appointments. At a subsequent meeting of the committee it was decided to write to the borough council, asking it to put in hand the metalling and tarring of the entrance to the society's ground from Weymouth Street. The society will offer to contribute £l2O towards the cost. I It was also decided to erect a lean;to at the back of the ladies’ croquet ipavilion, for the storage of tools and mowers, and to have a number of seaU fin the park re-painted.
