KAPONGA NEWS.
GENERAL ITEMS’. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Kaponga, Nov. 19. At the sale of Messrs Newton King, Ltd., on Friday last, there was a very big yarding, and all classes of stock sold remarkably well. Store cows made up to £3 ICte, fat cows £6 10s and bulls up to £lO 10s. •Store pigs were in good demand and realised up to £2 9s and weaners up to 3Os. A number of dairy cows ami heifers were also yarded and met with ready competition. Fair quality heifers made up to £8 10s and cows to £lO. Mr. D. P. Malone, one of our promi--nent Jersey breeders, took a team of his •pedigree Jersey® down to the Wangatfui show with excellent result®. His animals, secured five firsts, three seconds ami two thirds, besides one reserve championship, so that Mr. Malone is to he congratulated upon the results. Farmers round our district are hard at work just now putting in crops for autumn and winter feed. As far as can be ascertained the area in swedes this season will not be large, most farmer preferring to depend upon Chow Moilier, Japanese millet and maize, of which large areas are being sown. Mangolds and carrot® are also being sown in about the same proportion as last season. The bowling green is now in very fair order, but I understand that play will no* commence upon it until after Christmas. The green will certainly fil] a long felt want in the town. Quite a number of local Jersey breedeo have signified their Intention of exhibiting at the Stratford show next v.cek. Competition at Stratford is always keen and a win in the Jersey classes there is something to be- proud of. We are quite sure that Kaponga'® contingent will not disgrace itself.
