GENEVA PROTOCOL.
HALF-HEARTED SUPPORT. OBJECTIONS BY DOMINIONS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 19, 8.20 p.m. London, Nov. 19. The diplomatic correspondent of the Daily Telegraph affirms that the Geneva protocol has now been scrapped. The British Government’s decision for a postponement is not surprising in view of the objections raised by the Dominions. It is significant that Signor Mussolini (Premier of Italy/ recently expressed doubts as to the wisdom of Italian ratification, and even French enthusiasm has cooled, while Japan was luke warm from the start until she secured the dangerous clauses sanctioning intervention in disputes arising cut of the immigration laws and domestic legislation. There are hopes that the disarmament conference, however, need not be abandoned, the demise of the League conference furnishing President Coolidge with an opportunity, of which the Geneva plan deprived him. DOMINIONS TO BE CONSULTED. Received Nov. 19, 11.20 p.m. London, Nov. 18. The British Government has requested the League of Nations not to place the security for disarmament protocol on the agenda for the next meeting of the League Council in Rome on December 8, because it is necessary to Consult the Governments of the Dominions before Britain, is able to proceed with the matter.
