MOUNTAIN HOUSE.

CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS, SPORTS BODIES ASSISTING. ARRANGING FUNCTIONS. Preliminary arrangements ior conducting an energetic campaign for funds for the North Egmont mountain house were made at a meeting of representatives of the Mountain House guarantors committee and various sports bodies at New Plymouth last night. Mr. P. E. Stainton, who presided, said that the object of tlie meeting, was to devise ways and means of raising funds for the mountain house. The co-operation of the various sports bodies had been enlisted and it had been suggested that a carnival should be organised by a central committee. As an outcome of the carnival it was also hoped that a citizens’ committe would be set up to conduct the house. He thought those present should form themselves into a carnival committee to assist in any functions that were organised. VARIOUS FUNCTIONS. Speaking on behalf of the East End committee, Mr. F. E. Wilson said that each of the seaside committees had one day a year on which they sought to raise funds. He thought it would be better if they all worked together in a carnival. Mr. J. R. Sceats said that the New Plymouth Cycle Club was willing to arrange a cycle meeting on the first free Saturday. The riders would be willing to compete for sweepstakes, and as the gatekeepers would give their services free, there should be no expense beyond advertising.

Mr. Stainton said that the Motor Cycle ‘Club would also arrange a meeting. He thought that theix big sources of revenue would be the sports meeting organised by the sportsground committee, the motor cycle sports and a big beach picnic. For the Kawaroa Park Society, Mr. H. G. Andrews said that the society felt it could not arrange a function that might prejudice their Easter picnic, but the society was willing to place the park at the disposal of the mountain house committee to conduct any fete they might organise, and he could assure them that the park committee would assist. Their ladies’ committee would attend to the afternoon tea at any fete.

The opinion was expressed that the mountain house committee should be the executive in charge of the carnival. Mr. Stainton said that it was only an act of courtesy that the representatives of the snorts and other bodies assisting should be .on the committee. COMMITTEE SET UP. It was decided that the committee 'should comprise the mountain house guarantors committee and representatives of societies and sports bodies who were willing to assist. This committee now comprises Messrs. A. E. Sykes, R. H. George, ! r. E. Stainton, R. H. Quilliam, J. S. Connett, E. King, G. Fraser, C. E. Bellringer, P. J. H. White, R. J. Dcare, L. B. Webster and L. A. Nolan (guarantors committee), F. E. Wilson (East End), H. G. Andrews (Kawaroa and Savage Club), R. O. Ellis (Ngamotu), J. Hoskin, W. H. Moyes, C. Stephenson (Amateur Athletic Club), A. George (New Plymouth Cycle Club), L. M. McHardie (Motor Cycle Club), E. Jackson (Taranaki Boxing Association) and Captain L. W. Andrew. V.C. Mr. Stainton was appointed chairman. A suggested programme of functions included a cycle meeting at the end of December, a seaside picnic controlled by the three seaside societies at the end of January, a concert and sports gathering on the sportsground at the end of February, and motor cycle sports at the end of March. These functions are to be organised by the various bodies most intimately concerned, the members of the committee to give such assistance as is required. Messrs. Wilson, R. J. Deare, and H. G. Andrews, wer e appointed a sub-com-mittee to arrange preliminaries with re gard to the seaside picnic; Messrs. Sceats, A. George, C. N. Stephenson and J. Harnett, the cycle sports; Messrs. J. McLeod and L. Little, the function in the sportsground; and Mt. Stainton the motor cycle sports.

The New Plymouth Savage Club offered to provide the talent for a concert, and it was decided to ask the club to hold a concert in Pukekura Park towards the end of February. The question of arranging a concert in the park about Christmas time was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr. Wihon.
