SEASIDE IMPROVEMENT. (IFrom Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Sept. 25. There wae a very large attendance at the adjourned annual meeting of the Seaside Improvement Society last night. Mr. <S. G. Fraser presided. The election of officers resulted as follows - -—Patron, Mr. J. C. Rolleston. M.P.; president, Mr. A. W. Ogle; vicepresidents, Dre. Adamson and Barclay, Messrs L. Bake well, W. B. Pussell, W. Noswoithy, C. E. Gaustad, W. ’R. Johns, G. F. Walker, C. R. Stead, J. Blair, M. Fahy, D. McPherson, A. Keith, N. Madsen, and A. J. Smith; ladies’ committee, Mesdames Jones, Brabant and Muschamp, with power to add; men’s committee, Messrs Jensen, Huffam, E. C. Jones, V. Penman, lE. Procter, J. H Kiibby, H. Moyes, A. Pizzy, I. Antonovic, 1. Prichard, L. Clare, W. Middleton, G. H. Fletcher, S, G. Fraser, L. H. Sampson, with power to add; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Middleton; auditor, Mr. L. Bakewell.

A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the ladies by acclamation. The chairman stated that owing to the absence of books he regretted being unable ro thank others who had helped the society in the past. It was decided that the incmbereliip fees be 2s fid for a single ticket and 7s fid for a family ticket. It was also decided that all members organise and canvass for new members.

The question of holding dn opening day and the annual picnic was left in the hands of the committee.

Mr. C. E. Gauetad brought up the matter of people desirous of building beach cottages being, at present, unable to buy or lease any land owing to a lease of a kind from the Harbour Board to the society. At present neither had power to lease or sell the land, but the Harbour Board would welcome a deputation to go into the matter. After considerable discussion, the matter was left in the hands of a 'Sub-Tommdttee donsietiiig of Messrs Fnaser, Prichard, Gaustad and ■Stead. W.C.T.U. At a meeting of the W.C.T U., presided over by Mrs. Andrews, Mr. Vaughan (president of the North Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Alliance), described the arrangement for all kindred societies to unite and so strengthen each meeting and talk over general plans for future work. Mr. Vaughan said women and children were the greatest sufferers by the drink traffic, and the success of the movement was chiefly with them. It was necessary that all should pull together and bring some other person to the meetings.—Mr. Vaughan received thanks for his interesting address. A letter was read asking for aid for the Willard Home for destitute children at Palmerston North. The present home had outgrown its usefulness, and a new building would soon be required. —A sum of £1 was voted for this object, and the society will bo pleased to receive any left-off clothing for the little ones.

MUSIC EXAMINATIONS. The result of the examinations held under the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, London, by Dr. Haigh, are as follows: Advanced grade—F. Foster (MrsMnrlow. L.R.A.M.. A.R.0.M.). Intermediate.—Aline Wells (Mrs. H. G. Sell. A.R.C-M.) Lower division.—Mollie Allen (Mrs. IL G. Sell); Earl Read (Miss R. Brough). Elementary division.—Mona McKenzie (Miss Brough).’ Primary division.—Hilda Saleman. GENERAL ITEMS The Plunket Society, who are in need of funds to carry on this humanitarian work, are holding a mart in McLean Street on Saturday, when supporters will be able to get “quid pro quo” and help the society at the same time. Produce and donations will he thankfully received. Al the final euchre party and dance in the Soldiers’ and Civilians’ Club on Monday evening fourteen tables were engaged, and a most enjoyable time was spent- The prizes were won as follows: Points prize for the season, Mrs. J. Young and Mr. N. Frost. Winners of the evening’s play: Ladies, Mrs. Birdling 1, special Mrs. Dernehl, consolation Miss N. Goddard. Men: Mr. E. Dugdale 1, special Mi. H. George, consolation. Mr. A. Andrews. At the conclusion an excellent supper was provided by the ladies’ committeeMr. T. Hugo, Government inspector of fire brigades, was in town to-day and inspected the local brigade in the evening.
