A WIDOW’S PENSION.
FALSE STATEMENT MADE. By Telegraph.— Press AMOclstlon. Wellington, Laat Night. The case of a widow convicted at Christchurch of making false statements when applying for a pension was mentioned in the House to-day by Mr. H. T. Armstrong (Christchurch East), but the Minister for Justice (Hon. C. J. Parr) said he had no particulars of the ease.' Mr. Armstrong complained of th® severity of the sentence of three years’ probation, and the order to repay £7B obtained in pension because the woman happened to be earning nine shilligs a day when the pension was obtained. The Minister said the conviction was for making a false statement, which he regarded as serious. A« to repayment, that was a matter the department might take into consideration later.
