OPERA FOR GOOD CAUSE. (From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera, Sept. 23. The Hawera Amateur Operatic Society, which gave such successful performances of “Our Miss Gibbs” last week, has decided to repeat the performance for charitable purposes on Monday night, providing the Opera House can be secured. The decision was the result of a deputation consisting of the Mayor (Mr- L. A. Bone), the chairman of the Hospital Board and a representative of the advisory board of the Plunket Society. The Plunket Society and the Hawera Hospital will benefit in equal shares by the performance. CHARGE OF THEFT 1 . A man was arrested in Hawera this afternoon, after being followed from Norin anby by Constable Pidgeon, on a charge of stealing a bicycle from Te Roti. He will come before the court to-morrow, and a remand will be asked for.
