WAITARA NEWS.

AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION FORMED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Sept. 23. At a meeting of motorists held on Monday evening it was unanimously decided to form a sub-branch of the North Taranaki Automobile Association, and all present signified their intention of becoming members. Mr. W. R. Johns presided, and Messrs. W. C. Weston and F. H. Blundell, representing the North Taranaki Automobile Association, attended and outlined what had been done in New Plymouth. Dr. Adamson, who has hod wide experience of motoring in England and on the Continent, supplied much useful information, and also expressed the opinion that all the unions in New Zealand should be welded into one strong body on the lines of the English Union, which was doing exceedingly useful work. The following committee was appointed: Messrs- A. J. Smith, W. R. Johns, C. R. Stead, H. Madsen and Dr. Adamson, with power to add representatives from the Urenui, Uruti, Tikorangi and Huirangi districts. Mr. Madsen was elected secretary and Mr. Johns and Dr. Adamson were appointed delegates to the North Taranaki Union. It was reported that the perking place for cars in Waitara was the east side of Queen Street. GENERAL ITEMS. Waitara’a recently formed orchestra, under the baton of Mr. P. Appleby, is doing Very well, and is giving a taste of its qualities in the Theatre Royal early next month- The proceeds are for the R.S.A. Although rather early for beach picnics, the Waitara Methodists took advantage of the sunshine on Saturday last when about fifty members of the “Happy Hour” Club gathered at the beach. A number of adults were also present. The day passed off very pleasantly with games and sports. Another picnic will be held in a fortnight, when Sentry Hill school children wil] take part. The Clifton Football Club held their annual dance on Friday last, when there was a very large attendance. The chairman of the club (Mr. T. Taylor) thanked the ladies for the success of the evening, for which they had so willingly worked. The medals for the best back and forward were to have been presented to Messrs. I. Young and Jim Bailey, but owing to their absence from the district the medals are to be forwarded to them. Miss Myrtle Langman has just returned from the Wellington competitions. Although she did not get on the winning list, she secured very good marks, being eleventh in the sacred solo and also securing an H.C- In Mr. Bennett North’s remarks, he speaks very highly of Miss Langman’s voice. In the sacred solo class he remarks: “A very nice voice of excellent quality; a refined and sensitive singer, should do well with a little more courage and experience. You are going to do better still.”
