NO MORE WAR." Hawera, Last Night. In connection with the “No More War” movement, a fairly large meeting was held at Hawera to-hight, when the following resolution was carried: “That this meeting of Hawera citizens sends fraternal greetings to similar meetings now being held throughout the world to express abhorrence of war and militarism, joins with them in declaring it to be the duty of all people and Governments to strive for universal disarmament, and calls upon the New Zealand Government to pursue a policy of international co-operatiot|, support, strengthen and enlarge the League of Nations, urge the settlement of international disputes by conciliation and arbitration, and support the convocation of an international conference to achieve these purposes. The speakers were Mr. P- O’Dea (who presided), Mr. W. A. Sheat, representing th*.- Labour Party, Mrs. Norman Martin. M.R.S. (Theosophical Society), /the Rev. Pastor Greenwood (Church of Christ), Mr. J. W. Munro, Labour M.P. for Dunedin North, and the Rev. Goring (Baptist Church). GENERAL. The Hawera Fire Brigade was called out on Saturday afternoon to attend to a fire in a shed on the South Taranaki Building Society’s section, at the corner of Disraeli Street and . Glover Road. A neighbour brought a garden hose, to bear on the outbreak and controlled it until the brigade arrived. Very little damage was done.
