“GUSHING BORES.”

EMPIRE THEATRE TO-NIGHT. If veracious eminent townsmen are to be believed, the whole of New Plymouth is holding its breath in anticipation of the performance of “Gushing Bores” to be given in the Empire Theatre to-night, Tuesday and Wednesday by the New Plymouth Comedy Sketch Company. The box plans for the three performances were opened on Friday when there was excellent booking, and ever since there has been a steady stream of theatre-goers reserving seats. “Gushing Bores” is a very clever comedy chock full of laughs from beginning to end, and in the opinion of a wellknown critic, who was privileged to see a rehearsal last evening, it is the brightest little comedy that has been played in New Zealand for a long time. The plot deals with a “wild cat” oil venture, the Kainkakonka oilfields, not 50 miles from New Plymouth, by a live American company promotor, Mr. La de da Landstring (Mr, Hale Spencer), who is representing the Knuckleduster Oil Development Corporation of Blatherville, Ohio. The amazing situations in which this gentleman finds himself have been very cleverly thought out by the author, Mr. Gordon Graeme, and the various visitors to Mr. Landstring’s office during th e momentous morning he throws the Kainkakonka project open to the public form a procession of the most amazing scenes imaginable. A few of Mr, Landstring’s remarks when he is interviewed by his first client, are given in the advertisement columns of this issue. “Gushing Bores” is a scream from start to finish, and cannot fail to raise a laugh from the dismaiest Jimmy theatregoer. Box plans are at Collier’s.
