NOTES FROM RANDWICK. GLOAMING TN GOOD FORM. By Telegraph —Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. IS, 8.30 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 18. The Monk remains in the Hill Stakes, its name having been wrongly omitted from the acceptors. Gloaming displayed all his old brilliance In a six furlongs gallop on the middle grass track at Randwick. He did the fire three furlongs in 3Gsec., five furlongs in imin. O’/fcsec., and six furlongs in Imin, 14sec. In 1020 he covered the same distance in Imin. 13%sec., but as then he ran close to the rails, today’s spin is considered equally as good. It has never been beaten under similar conditions. The Hawk and Bosh did six furlongs in Imin. 16sec. TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturo*.”) The Ashburton County Racing Chib’s spring meeting, a mixed galloping and trotting gathering, opens to-day, and will conclude on Saturday. Although the acceptors are confined to Canterbury and Otago stables, considerable Interest is attached to the racing by reason of the number of New Zealand Cup candidates engaged. Moderate fields will be seen out in the various events, and the running of Moorland, Deucalion, Agnola, Heraldry, Sun Up, Happy Warrior, and others will be noted by those searching for likely winners at the bigger meetings due in November. The other day a misprint in an Auckland paper was responsible for the statement that Desert Gold's first flliy to race, "Dream," by King John, was due to sport silk at Avondale on Saturday. The par was copied as published by a number of papers, scribes overlooking the fact that the filly In question is named "Oreum.” Scratchings for the Avondale Stakes are: Bank Draft, Aropeta and Gold Plaid. Tussore had two easy victories at Danpevirke on Wednesday. Minstrel Boy, who scrambled home in th? Trial at Dannevlrke, is a three-year-old gelding by Kllboy—Tuneful, hy Hymettus —Paean, by Birkenhead—-Chant. Tuneful Is the dam of Harmonious, Arion, Irish Melody, and Sweet Chimes.

At Ellerslie on Tuesday morning Town Bank and Lady Ridicule were responsible for the best gallops, registering Imin. 16 2-ssec. for six furlongs. Town Bank is very fit. Nukurnai ran a great race In the Neagle Memorial Handicap at Dannevlrke, and Foxton sports give him more than a rough chance irt the New Zealand Cup. Rouen came from the same stable last year, so one never knows.

Glentruln's success in the Warwick Farm Stakes at Randwick on September 6 was anticipated, and the New Zealand-owned mare started favourite in a smart field of eleven, and won with a lot in hand. If she had b</n pushed she would have hoisted new figures for six furlongs at Randwick, instead of equalling the track record—ltoln. ll&see. Glentruin’s racing record reads: 33 starts, 16 wins, 11 seconds, 4 thirds, and she was twice unplaced, in the Members’ Handicap at Rlccarton, and in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham. Her stake Winnings total £7941 10s, of which £2450 represents dual victories In the C..T.C. Stewards’ Handicap. So far Glentruln has only won up to seven furlongs, but heaps of New Zealanders at present in Sydney expected her to run out the mile In the Epsom Handicap nt Randwick next month. However, she has since been withdrawn owing to a mishap in training.

George Price had a busy day that day. No sooner had he led Glentruln in but he sent The Cypher (Martian —Polymnia) out to contest the September Handicap, and the New Zealand-bred horse registered a fine performance, carrying 8.12, and running the mile and a quarter in 2mln. The Cypher beat an outsider in Irish Rhythm, ridden by Ashley Reed, and other good horses, including Rivoli, David, Shrapnel, Runny Loch (George Young), Mirthmaker (the favourite), Polyclctan, etc. Price then turned his attention to Stony, and went near landing the treble, the useful Kenilworth gelding running up fast into second place after being badly placed earlier.

The New Zealand-bred horses raced prominently in other events that afternoon. Director

(Nassau—Culross) finished third in the Flying Welter Handicap, won by Blackadder, who was ridden by George Y’oung, and put up a great seven furlongs gallop, registering imin. 25%isec., and with 10st. 41b. up. Klllocra (R. 8. Bagby) was fifth, and Bathos sixth. Giggle (Absurd—Chuckle) finished seventh in the Three-Year-Old Handicap. Father’s Voice (Con. Reed) started at long odds in the Warwick Stakes, and ran a creditable second to Glentruin, with The Monk seventh. Sunny Loch (G. Young) finished fourth in the September HaB'V«o»
