INCREASES MAINTAINED. OVER £5OO MORE REVENUE. HEAVIER CAPITAL CHARGES. The maintenance of the increase in trafiio and receipts of the New Plymouth borough tramways was again noted in the report for August of the manager (Mir. G. J. Wyatt) submitted to the council last night. Mr. Wyatt’s report stated:—'“A, -constant service has been' maintained throughout the month in accordance with the time-table. The rejveinie earned ( £1757 18s 4d) compared with that of the same month, last year, j-hows an increase of £530 9s sd, and tihe passengers carried (*202,209) an increase of 63,404. Though this increase may appear large, the fact must not be lost sight of that our capital charges have increased considerably this year, and our present authorised work and additions will be a heavy call on our renewal and reserve funds. '‘No trouble has been experienced with the plant and above the usual maintenance, everything running smoothly. The new time-table is well in hand, and will be before the council shortly.” A detailed statement of the traffic returns showed that 185,899 passengers, yielding £1471 18s 2d has been carried on the Fitzroy-Breakwater line and 36,319 passengers, yielding £*2B6 0s 2d, on the Westown line. Reporting on the electric ’bus service, the electrical engineer (Mr. W. H. Huggett) said that during the month of August tSie ’bus carried 9305 passengers yielding a revenue of £B3 11-s lid. Compared with the corresponding month of last year, when the full system was in operation, the figures showed a decrease of 8906 in passengers and £9B 16s 2d in revenue.
