After a hearing lasting some days His Honour Mr. Justice McGregor granted a decree njsi to Arthur Blatcher, who sought a divorce from his wife on the grounds of adultery with Hayden Algar, a well-known resident. Evidence was given that respondent and co-respondent had stayed at the United Service Hotel, Christchurch, as Mr. and Mrs. Algar. His Honour, in summing up, made caustic comment on the conduct of the corespondent, who, he said, had not gone into the box and refuted the charges if, as alleged by counsel, they were false, but had sat and smiled as though the whole thing was a variety show. Damages totalling £2OO were awarded. ’ A motion was made for a new trial.
