AFRICANS’ LAST MATCH. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 11. Thornton's eleven, in tne first innings, made 461 and declared (Holmes not out 202, Hendren 101, Rhodes 56). The Africans, in the second innings, made 45 without the loss of a wicket. Holmes batted 306 minutes, hitting 20 fours and giving two chances. With Hendren he added 170. The scoring was monotonous against tired bowling. Hendren, who gave two chances, hit one six and nine fours. Rhodes and Holmes added 122 for the fifth wicket in 75 minutes. Hendren completed 2000 runs for the season. Eight bowlers were tried, Nourse taking two wickets for 51. Received Sept. 13, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 12. The South Africans’ second innings against Thornton’s eleven realised 273 runs. They were beaten by an Innings and 45 runt. The wicket was good. Allen, in the first five overs, took three wickets for four runs. Then Nourse and Susskind made a valuable stand. Nourse batted for 210 minutes and hit eight fours, while Susskind made 39. The Africans wound up the tour with an Innings defeat just on time. ENGLISHMEN FOR AUSTRALIA. London, Sept. 12. The cricketers Freeman, Whysall, Howell, the manager Toon, and Mrs. Hobbs embark on the Ormonde at Tilsbury to-morrow. The remainder of the team for Australia, namely, Gilligan, Dougla< Bryan, Chapman, Hobbs, Sandh&m, Tyldesley, Tate, Strudwick, Woolley, Hendren, Hearne, Sutcliffe and Kilner, are engaged in a match Champion County v. The Rett, and will join the Ormonde at Toulon.
