FITZROY WAR MEMORIAL.
ENTRANCE GATES AT SCHOOL. CANVASS FOR SUBSCRIPTIONS. The initial canvass for subscriptions towards the erection of entrance gates at the Fitzroy school! as the suburb’s war memorial has resulted in the collection of .£4O, while two more lists which have yet to be returned, are expected to increase this amount to approximately £6O. Altogether about £l'so is required for the work. The general memorial committee and r,he ladies’ committee in charge of the canvass met last night, Mr. G. V, Matthews presiding, when satisfaction -was expressed at the response made to the appeal and plans were discussed for making a. further canvass, which is to include the town area. A meeting is to be held on September 9 to discuss the matter further. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the ladies who had organised the canvass for subs'criptions.
