POWER FOR FARMS.

CHANGE OVER IN MANAWATU. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. The first electrically driven milking plant in the Manawatu district was operated this evening, and is the forerunner of hundreds of similar installations. Two horse-power motors easily did the work of a 34 horse-power oil engine, which it superseded. Power was transmitted to an intermediate countershaft, and thence to a vacuum pump, water pump and separator. Electric Lighting in the shed was in vivid contrast to the kerosene lamps that have done duty for so long, and doubtless there will soon be a complete metamorphosis in this aspect of dairying.
