FARMERS CONFER.
MATTERS FOR ATTENTION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Feilding, Last Night. The farmers’ inter-provincial conference has concluded. The following remits were passed:— That the Advances to Settlers Act be amended to the effect that loana only be made on a valuation basis; that the Education Department initiate correspondence classes for farmers and others on the principles of agriculture; that the Government offer a reward for an antidote to noxious weeds; that the Agricultural Department more systematically carry out field experiments; that the Forestry Department vigorously push the growth of trees by farmers; that a uniform system of expressing the compositign of fertilisers be compulsory; that the attention of the Minister for Lands be drawn to the loss incurred by allowing vacated sections to lie idle for long periods; that the Government take more stringent measures against cattle tick. The delegates visited the Feilding Agricultural High School, with which they were greatly impressed. A trophy was presented to the school for competition by students.
