FAREWELL TO MR. WILKINSON.

Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, who leaves for England this week, was farewelledu by a. representative gathering of citizens on Tuesday night. The function, which was promoted .by the Chamber of Comntei’ce, was presided over by Mr. Ira J. Bridger. Among those present were Mr. O. J. Hawkon, M.P. for Egmont, Sir Walter Carnoross, and the Mayor (Mr. G. W. Tayler).

The Mayor, in proposing the toast of the evening, said their guest had been associated with the progress of Eltham, and had been in many public bodies. He had impressed his personality on the town, and had shown great business perspicacity in his commercial affairs. He was going to reside in New Plymouth. but he was sure that their departing guest would not forget ElthAin. He was sure they all wished Mr. Wilkinson bon voyage. (Applause.) Mr. O. .1. Hawken said Mr. Wilkinson had given his best for the town, had risen of his own capability and hard work, and it should not be forgotten that as a pioneer he had done wonderful things for Eltham. He had represented this district in Parliament, and had done great work for his constituency. While in the House Mr. Wilkinson had left a good impression, aud had only left politics through pressure of business. Several other citizens added tributes to Mr. Wilkinson’s work for Eltham and Taranaki.

Tn reply, Mr. Wilkinson thanked them all for their kind wishes. He would never forget Eltham or its people. He hoped when he returned that the town would b? still prospering and the people doing well. The town had stuck to him. and he would not forget the town'. He had every confidence in the town and its people. (Applause.)
