WAITARA MEWS.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Waitara School Committee was held on Monday evening. The headmaster’s report stated: The attendance, owing to broken weather and to a considerable amount of sickness, had not been quite t,s good as usual. The average attendance was 335.3. Five pupils were admitted and three withdrawn. The present roll number was 363. It was decided to send a letter to the Education Board, expressing keen disappointment at the result of the visit of the Minister of Education. Notwithstanding i strong recommendation by the senior Spector in favour of a new room, the •linister threw cold water on the project, it was pointed out that the pupils of
randard four must perforce be taught for cne day a week in a badly lighted and cold shelter-shed, and that unless further accommodation be provided the prospective rural science classes at Waitara would render conditions unworkable. It was further decided that the application for another room b» again made to the department, through the Taranaki Education Board. GENERAL ITEMS. The silver medals presented by Mr. H. Wakely (chairman of the W’aitara School Committee) as points prizes for boys and girls in swimming events at the recent school swimming snorts, were won by Ph’dlis Lyal! and R. White. Mr. Wakely made the presentation on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Wakely also presented two books, donated by Mr. R. C. Smith for the most improved swimmers during the season, which were won by Lulu Limmer and Jack Jones.
