OFFICE TRAGEDY.
YOUTH SHOOTS A GIRL. RESULT OF MAD JEALOUSY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Adelaide, March 17. A mysterious tragedy is reported. A girl, Hilda Jones, aged 16, was shot dead yesterday afternoon in the city offices where she was employed. A youth, Herbert Neale, aged 19, with whom Miss Jones had bfeen keeping company, was found outside the office in a fainting condition with a rifle alongside him containing four live and one discharged cartridge. Neale was removed to the hospital.
Neale was charged with the murder of Miss Jones. The police allege he made a statement that he was infatuated with Miss Jones, and became madly jealous and afraid that someone else might get her. He brought a rifle to work that morning to do the shooting. A clerk who worked with Jones said that during the luncheon hour he heard a report and a fall, and saw Miss Jones lying on the floor. Neale was holding a smoking rifle. When the police arrived Neale pointed the rifle at them, and they rushed in just in time to catch him.
