Congressional investigation is expected of the ‘claims that through diplomatic agents liquor is being sold to private citizens. Mr. C. E. Hughes (Secretary for State) has been asked Ijy Congressmen to intervene officially in what is claimed to be systematic liquor trafficking by servants of the legations. The police attempted to seise liquor in an apartment belonging to M. Sokolowski, the Polish ambassador, who chimed immunity. Fourteen people have been arfor bootlegging liquor obtained from the aame apartment. Warsaw has order* ed M. Sokolowski to report on the mat*/ ter. . * ALCOHOLIC DEATHS. Received Dec. 28, 8.5 p.m. v New York, Dec. 27. x - Alcoholic deaths now total eleven, in New Yorit, and two in Baltimore Ne<l York hospitals report cases of alcoholism, of which seventeen are women.
