MAN AND WOMAN BURNT. TRAPPED IN A SCRUB FIRE. 3y Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, Dec. 24. A distressing occurrence is reported from Rockville, near Collingwood, whereby Mrs. Mary Ann Gill and her brother, Henry C. J. 'Avery, both over 60, lost their lives. Mrs. Gill kept house for her brother. afternoon they went for a walk and Aver}’ lit a scrub fire in rough country in two or three places. The fire burned fiercely, and both the man and woman attempted to clamber up a steep gully, but were overtaken. Mrs. Gill was burned co death on tho spot. Avery was found with his clothes all burned oft* and was taken home, but died this morning. The tragedy occurred in a. most secluded spot and it was remarkable that it should have been i discovered so soon.
