WAITARA NEWS.
There was a very good attendance at the last night of St. John’s Rose Show. The show was a great success, due to the untiring efforts of the secret ary (Mr. R. H. Laurence) and his assistants. It is expected there will be a profit of over £l2O. A committee meeting of the Clifton Rowing Club was held last week. Mr. L. G. Bakewell was appointed captain and chairman of the committee for the ensuing year. The committee are indebted to Mrs. McPherson, of the Waitara Hotel, for the donation of five beautiful silver cups for competition, and also for procuring another handsome cup fflpm Messrs. Drysdale and Co., of Auckland. The annual meeting of the Waitara branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in Knox Church last Friday. Mrs. Avery, presided over a good attendance of members. Annual reports were read and adopted, showing a fair year’s work and a credit balance. The following officers were elected for the coming year:—President, Mrs. Avery; vice-presidents, Mesdames Kedgley and Andrews; secretary, Mrs. Jensen; treasurer, Mrs. Hughson; organist, Mrs. Blair; “White Ribbon” agent, Mrs. Hingley, in place of Mrs. Murray, who is leaving Waitara. The New Plymouth Union sent greetings and thanks for gifts from Waitara towards their mart in aid of the Dominion Convention, to be held in New Plymouth usxt March.
