THE PEOPLE’S. “GOSSIP” TO-NIGHT.” “Gossip” is the vice that is exploited in satirical fashion in the picture of that title which was screened at the People's Theatre last night. Gladys Walton is the star of “Gossip,” and it is said to piesenl her with a more extreme characterisation to play than in any of her preceding successes. »Sl>e has been asso ciated with flapperisations as the heroine of delightful romances of youth most of the time. This role is that oi a girl of the old 'South, charmingly unaware of the advance of the times and quite out of place in the jazzy whirl of modern social and business life. Othc-r attractions on the programme include chapter 9 of “Perils of Yukon,” Century comedy, “Peg o’ the Movies,” and International News. Baby Peggy is the star of “Peg o’ the Movies,” and she gained hearty applause last night for her wonderful little comedy. The final group of competitors in the beauty competition are also showing to-night. Admission prices are 9d and Is 3d. EVERYBODY’S. JACKIE COOGAN TO-DAY AT 3.30. Charles Dickens’ immortal story,“Oliver Twist,” again drew a capacity house to Everybody’s last night. Jackie Coogan, the wonderful child actor plays the title role. Another matinee screening is announced for this afternoon at 3.30 p.m. at concession prices. The story of Oliver’s life is worked out with perfect ease. It is impossible to speak too highly of the acting of the principals, or of the production. The characters are absolutely true to type, and live as in actual life. Jackie Coogan, as Oliver Twist, has given an interpretation that will most assuredly appeal te every child as well as to every adult lover of Dickens’ masterpiece. The impression left is that of a faithful reproduction, even in details of dress and manners o* England of the middle of the 19th century. The supporting pictures are excellent, and another chapter of “Around the World in Eighteen Days” is included. The programme screens finally tonight. Seats may be reserved at Collier’*.
